In the foreground is represented the scene of the torture of St. John the Baptist. The sword of a soldier is about to fall on the neck of saint kneeling, hands tied with a rope. Two turbaned Jewish and an officer to take the prison right, while three women come forward with a cut hand. Angels overlook the scene. In the background, King Herod, under a canopy, seat banquet while later, a man brandished the head of the decapitated saint.
The prototype of the icon, Michael Damaskinos signed and dated 1590, is in the church ciméteriale Corfu. The new iconography he is inaugurated recovery maint copies, fifteen of them all signed and listed.
