In the sixteenth century, "The Loves of the Gods" was a theme much appreciated by sponsors, but also by artists. Indeed, tapping into the mythological repertoire gave them an excuse to paint female nudes and to produce works with affirmed eroticism without incurring the wrath of censorship. Mars has laid down his arms and tenderly embraces Venus whose eyes are on a small love that bites an arrow. The latter looks the visitor to make it witnessed the scene.
