Anton Mauve, 1880 - Riders in the Snow in the Hague Forest - fine art print

As in his painting of the Morning Ride on the Beach (Gallery 1.18), Mauve shows the riders from behind. They are trotting away from the viewer in that silent wood. In the watercolour, the bare branches contrast sharply with the misty background, lit by an almost imperceptible winter sun. The whole scene seems to convey a sense of tranquillity and serenity.

The modern art masterpiece Riders in the Snow in the Hague Forest was painted by the male Dutch artist Anton Mauve. Today, the artpiece can be viewed in in the Rijksmuseum's digital art collection, which is the largest museum for Dutch art and history from the Middle Ages to the present day. The painter, watercolourist Anton Mauve was a European artist, whose artistic style was mainly Impressionism. The Impressionist painter lived for a total of 50 years and was born in the year 1838 and died in the year 1888.
