Illustrates the poem "Let us love always! Let us love again!", "Contemplations", Volume I, Book II, XXII poem

This provides the model to be engraved in the new edition of "Contemplations" that fits into the complete works of Victor Hugo called "National Edition" published by Lemonnyer and Testard in 1886. A special drawing on paper luxury was carried to a thousand numbered copies to the press, with a double suite of etchings etching according Duez, Dagnan-Bouveret, Courtois, French and Deschamps for the first volume. The museum has a copy consisting of two prints of the etching, connected with the text. This copy is Paul Meurice, who was the literary editor of the "National Edition" as an "agent of Victor Hugo" and charged with "intellectual and artistic supervision of illustrations." The work has most likely been exposed among the collection Emile Testard to the Maison de Victor Hugo Avenue d'Eylau in 1889, although the catalog the reports as a "drawing" as No. 422.
