African Chief was painted by the Spanish painter Mariano Fortuny y Marsal in 1870. The original creation had the following size 41 x 32,9 cm (16 1/8 x 12 15/16 in) and was produced with the techinque oil on canvas. The painting has the following text as inscrption: inscribed, lower right: Fortuny '70/ A MI AMIGO... (name indicipherable). Moveover, the artwork forms part of the Art Institute Chicago's digital art collection located in Chicago, Illinois, United States of America. With courtesy of: Art Institute Chicago (public domain). On top of that, alignment of the digital reproduction is in portrait format with a ratio of 3 : 4, which means that the length is 25% shorter than the width. The painter Mariano Fortuny y Marsal was an artist from Spain, whose art style can be attributed mainly to Impressionism. The painter was born in the year 1838 and deceased at the age of 36 in the year 1874.
