This work is a self-portrait. On a leather chair, gleaming, arranged near a marble fireplace, were thrown pell-mell a top hat, gloves and a cane, which reveal a bourgeois and social life, but also sketches and notebooks drawings to cartons which are those of an artist and a collector. It is himself that Gigoux represents. And how to hang the tables squeezed in on walls matches the descriptions that some of its visitors have made of his apartment.
