Former Court of Auditors, located since 1842 in Orsay palace was burnt down in 1871 at the end of the Commune. It was left to the state of ruins for twenty years and became very famous among poets and painters of the time. The ruins were bought in 1897 by the Company of the Orleans Railway who built in this location Orsay station from 1898. The station has since become the "Musée d'Orsay" (1986).

The over 130 years old original was painted with the following size: Height: 46 cm, Width: 33 cm. "Date and signature - On the front of the canvas, bottom right: "G. Rouard 88"" is the artpiece's inscription. It can be viewed in in the Musée Carnavalet Paris's digital art collection in Paris, France.
