an extended study tour undertaken as Stöckler mid-40s (probably together with Thomas Ender) to Asia Minor, he was one of the first Austrian painters who indulged in the experience of the Orient. However, for him this trip meant not still coming to terms with the fascination light that attracted the Orientalist painters of the following generation, but getting to know new areas and cultures. So the painter interested in the present account primarily the subject: A widely held castle with magnificent citadel, bailey and an exterior wall completely preserved, the dominant perched on a promontory. This is most likely to Yoros Kalesi, the largest fortress at the mouth of the Bosporus into the Black Sea. It is located on the Asian side of the strait, at Anadolu Kavagi, and was built in cooperation with their counterparts castle on the opposite bank for the control and defense of the access routes from the Black Sea to Constantinople Opel. The term "Genoese fortress" with which the system is in the topographic reports usually called, going to the Genoese-Venetian war in 1300 back, which earned the Republic of Genoa in control of the northern access routes to Byzantium.
