Ave Caesar! Morituri te salutant (Hail Caesar! We Who Are about to Die Salute You) is an artwork painted by Jean-Léon Gérôme in 1859. The over 160 year-old original was painted with the size: unframed: 93,1 x 145,4 cm (36 5/8 x 57 1/4 in) framed: 116,8 x 172,7 cm (46 x 68 in) and was painted with the medium oil on canvas. Nowadays, the artpiece can be viewed in in the Yale University Art Gallery's digital collection, which belongs to Yale University and is the oldest art museum of a university in the western hemisphere. Furthermore, alignment of the digital reproduction is in landscape format with a ratio of 3 : 2, which means that the length is 50% longer than the width. Jean-Léon Gérôme was a painter from France, whose art style can be attributed primarily to Realism. The painter was born in the year 1824 and died at the age of 80 in the year 1904.
