Supplemental information by the museum (© - by The Metropolitan Museum of Art - The Metropolitan Museum of Art)
The date on this thinly painted panel is almost certainly 1653, the last year in which Van Goyen is known to have painted beach scenes (the first known example is dated 1632). At seaside villages the beach was something akin to the market square, with villagers gathered to greet the fresh catch and to chat at the end of the workday.

Pick your material
The product dropdown menu ofers you the possibility to pick the material and size of your choice. You can select your preferred size and material among the following choices:
- The poster print (canvas material): The poster print is a printed cotton canvas with a granular finish on the surface, which resembles the original version of the artwork. Please keep in mind, that depending on the size of the poster we add a white margin of around 2-6cm around the print motif, which facilitates the framing with your custom frame.
- The canvas print: A canvas print, not to be mistaken with a real artwork painted on a canvas, is a digital image printed from a UV direct printing machine. It has the extra effect of three dimensionality. Also, a canvas generates a soft and pleasing atmosphere. A printed canvas of your favorite artpiece will allow you to transform your very own fine art print into a large work of art. The great advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight, which implies that it is quite simple to hang up the Canvas print without the help of additional wall-mounts. Therefore, canvas prints are suitable for all types of walls.
- Printed acrylic glass: A glossy print on acrylic glass, which is often referred to as a an art print on plexiglass, transforms the original artwork into great décor. With an acrylic glass fine art print sharp contrasts and smaller color details will be recognizeable due to the very subtle tonal gradation in the picture. Our acrylic glass protects your chosen art replica against light and heat for between 40-60 years.
- Metal (aluminium dibond print): This is a metal print made on aluminium dibond with an impressive effect of depth. The non-reflective surface structure creates a fashionable look. For your Aluminium Dibond option, we print the artpiece on the surface of the white-primed aluminum composite.
