Christ is shown as the Savior of the World (Salvator Mundi), a popular image in fifteenth-century painting. Front-faced, he holds a cross-topped globe and raises his right hand in blessing, merging the themes of the Holy Face (Christ’s features miraculously imprinted on a cloth) and Christ in Majesty. The small, circular format made this picture appropriate for hanging above a bed.
