This more than 270 years old piece of art was painted by Giovanni Paolo Panini in 1747. The masterpiece was painted with the size of Framed: 147,5 x 120 x 5 cm (58 1/16 x 47 1/4 x 1 15/16 in); Unframed: 127 x 97,8 cm (50 x 38 1/2 in). Oil on canvas was used by the Italian painter as the technique for the masterpiece. The original artwork's inscription is the following - "signed lower left: "ROMAE / [I] P. PANINI. 1747."". Today, this work of art is in the the The Cleveland Museum of Art's digital art collection. In addition to that, the alignment of the digital reproduction is in portrait format with an image ratio of 3 : 4, meaning that the length is 25% shorter than the width. The architect, painter Giovanni Paolo Panini was an artist, whose artistic style was primarily Baroque. The artist was born in the year 1691 in Piacenza, Piacenza province, Emilia-Romagna, Italy and died at the age of 74 in 1765 in Rome, Roma province, Lazio, Italy.

Created as a temple under the Roman emperor Hadrian around the year AD 125, the Pantheon became a Christian church in 609. Significant restoration took place in the early 1700s, a period of renewed attention to early Christian monuments. The site was a major monument of antiquity, an active church, and its portico, visible through the door, held the most important art fair in the city. Panini shows the complexity of this public space by representing foreign tourists, local churchgoers, Roman nobles, and artists mingling under the dome.
