In the course of his life, Martin van Meytens has d. J. repeatedly portrayed himself. At the time, has emerged as this painting, he was already a well-traveled man. At the age of 17 he left his native Sweden in the direction of Holland, more stations were England, Paris and Dresden. Around 1720 he came to Vienna, where Emperor Charles VI. soon became aware of him and gave him a multi-year study in Italy. After a stay in Sweden in the years 1730 and 1731, the artist was permanently in Vienna. In the early years in Vienna and this self-portrait can be dated in which Meytens shows without a wig in a more private setting. His right hand rests on a canvas with which his profession is expressed while he holds in his left hand a portrait medallion. In his early days he had been in demand as a miniature painter who worked in particular email. You can see here Gustavus Adolphus of gods, those German Graf, who worked in Vienna in the diplomatic service and in 1729 the Black Eagle Order was awarded. The Breast Star and the characteristic orange-colored sash can be seen in the greatly reduced representation. Meytens even wearing a gold chain with a medal by Fredrik I. around his neck. This precious gift had made the Swedish king to him that he had to let the artists to Vienna. A total of three more versions of this self-portrait are known, which is not unusual in the oeuvre of Meytens. A version that was circulated by an engraving, is located in Ludwigsburg Palace and the Muzeul National Brukenthal in Sibiu. These two have been since the 18th century part of the respective collection. A third has finally found its way into the Sinebrychoff Art Museum in Helsinki only of 2008. [Georg Lechner, 9/2017]

Choose your desired material
We offer a range of various materials and sizes for every product. You can choose among the following product customization options:
- Canvas print: The printed canvas, which shall not be mistaken with an artwork painted on a canvas, is an image printed on a UV direct printer. The great advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight, meaning that it is easy to hang your Canvas print without any wall-mounts. Therefore, canvas prints are suited for any type of wall.
- Poster (canvas material): A poster is a printed sheet of canvas with a nice structure on the surface, which reminds the actual version of the work of art. The printed poster is excellently used for putting your art replica using a customized frame. Please note, that depending on the size of the poster print we add a white margin of approximately 2-6cm round about the print to facilitate the framing with your custom frame.
- Aluminium dibond: These are metal prints on alu dibond material with an impressive depth effect, which creates a contemporary look with a surface , which is not reflective. A direct Direct Print on Aluminum Dibond is the best introduction to art replicas produced with aluminum. For our Direct Aluminium Dibond option, we print your favorite artpiece onto the aluminium composite white-primed surface. The colors of the print are luminous, the details of the print are crisp and clear, and the print has a a matte look that you can literally feel. This direct UV print on aluminium is the most popular entry-level product and is a truly contemporary way to display art, because it draws focus on the replica of the artwork.
- Acrylic glass print: The print on acrylic glass, often described as a plexiglass print, makes an original work of art into décor and is a distinct alternative to aluminium or canvas prints. The great advantage of an acrylic glass fine art copy is that contrasts and also small details will be more identifiable thanks to the delicate tonal gradation.
