Art Institute Chicago
The Art Institute of Chicago is an internationally renowned art museum in the heart of downtown Chicago. It has been open to the public since 1879, making it the oldest and largest art museum in the United States. Its collection contains more than 300,000 works of art, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs and video games. Some of the artists featured in their collection include Van Gogh, Gauguin and Monet. The collection also features several pieces of Native American, African and southwest Asian art. The museum has been a huge influence on Chicago's art culture ever since it was established. It has been widely regarded as being one of the most distinguished museums in North America due to its notable collections of impressionist, post-impressionist and American paintings. It has also been regarded as one of the most significant museums in America for the preservation and display of contemporary art.
