Boldini made his debut at the Salon of 1879 with this vignette of contemporary urban life. The partially visible inscription of "garde républicaine" on the soldier’s bag indicates that he is delivering correspondence on behalf of the Parisian municipal guard. He has arrived so early that the concierge is still washing the sidewalk; a couple bids a discreet adieu at right. Large spectacles outside an optician’s shop encourage viewers to look closely at the action. One critic found the painting "a bit nonchalant and glittering," but praised its sense of life and rapid motion, concluding, "Boldini is more than a fashion painter."

Materials our customers can choose
The product dropdown menu provides you with the opportunity to pick your individual material and size. Thus, we allow you to choose among the following options:
- Glossy acrylic glass print (with real glass coating): A glossy acrylic glass print, which is sometimes referenced as a print on plexiglass, transforms the original into great décor and makes a viable alternative option to aluminium and canvas fine art prints. Your own version of the artwork is manufactured with state-of-the-art UV print machines. With an acrylic glass art print sharp contrasts and also small artwork details become more visible with the help of the delicate tonal gradation in the picture. Our real glass coating protects your custom fine art print against sunlight and external influences for many years.
- The canvas print: The printed canvas, not to be confused with a canvas painting, is a digital replica applied directly on canvas. It makes a sculptural look of three dimensionality. Hanging a canvas print: Canvas Prints have the great advantage of being low in weight, meaning that it is easy and straightforward to hang your Canvas print without any wall-mounts. Canvas prints are suited for all kinds of walls.
- Aluminium dibond print: Aluminium Dibond prints are metal prints with an outstanding depth effect. The non-reflective surface structure creates a fashionable look. For the Direct Aluminium Dibond option, we print your favorite artwork right on the surface of the white-primed aluminum composite. Colors are luminous, the fine details appear clear and crisp, and there’s a matte appearance you can literally feel.
- Poster (canvas material): A poster print is a printed sheet of canvas paper with a fine surface finish. Please keep in mind, that depending on the size of the poster we add a white margin of something between 2-6 cm around the print motif in order to facilitate the framing.
