Artwork information by the museum's website (© - The Metropolitan Museum of Art - The Metropolitan Museum of Art)
This cavalryman has been identified as a trumpeter in a regiment of French dragoons, a type of mounted soldier. De Neuville’s stock-in-trade were military paintings that emulate the sparkling style of Ernest Meissonier (whose work is displayed nearby). To create his scenes, De Neuville conducted careful research, and drew on his experiences as a naval cadet and as an officer in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–71. Long after that conflict ended, De Neuville capitalized on the intense patriotism and dreams of military glory that the French defeat aroused.

Product materials you can choose
We offer a range of various sizes and materials for every product. You can pick your favorite size and material between the following options:
- Poster (canvas material): Our poster print is a UV printed canvas with a nice structure on the surface. It is excellently designed for placing the art copy in a personal frame. Please note, that depending on the size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin between 2 - 6cm round about the painting to facilitate the framing with your custom frame.
- Acrylic glass print (with real glass coating): The acrylic glass print, which is sometimes described as a plexiglass print, will transform the artwork into brilliant décor and offers a good alternative option to canvas or aluminium dibond fine art replicas. The great upside of an acrylic glass fine art copy is that contrasts and painting details will be more visible due to the very fine gradation of the picture. The acrylic glass protects your selected art print against light and external influences for many years to come.
- Canvas print: The UV printed canvas stretched on a wood frame. A printed canvas of this masterpiece will allow you to transform your fine art print into a large artpiece as you know from galleries. The advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight, which implies that it is easy to hang up your Canvas print without any wall-mounts. Therefore, canvas prints are suited for any type of wall.
- Aluminium dibond print: Aluminium Dibond prints are prints on metal with an outstanding effect of depth. The Direct Print on Aluminum Dibond is the excellent introduction to fine art reproductions on aluminum. Colors are luminous in the highest definition, the details of the print are crisp.
