Additional artwork information from the museum (© Copyright - by The Metropolitan Museum of Art - The Metropolitan Museum of Art)
This landscape is surprisingly modern in its simplified details, flattened forms, and patterned composition. A shepherd and animals of the sort that had appeared in Ryder’s earlier, Barbizon influenced paintings are here overwhelmed by the setting’s stylized elements: a stream rushing along a rigid diagonal, sinuous hills filling the middle ground, and clouds rising in contrasting bands and culminating in undulating deep-blue shapes outlined in light. Works such as this one prompted the avant-garde painter Marsden Hartley, born thirty years after Ryder, to call him a “master of the arabesque.”

Choose a art print material option
We offer a range of different sizes and materials for every product. Thus, we allow you to choose among the following options:
- Acrylic glass print: The print on acrylic glass, which is sometimes named as a plexiglass print, will turn your favorite original work of art into brilliant décor. Additionally, it forms a good alternative option to canvas or aluminium dibond fine art replicas.
- Aluminium dibond print: Aluminium Dibond prints are metal prints with a true depth. For your Direct Aluminium Dibond print, we print your selected artpiece on the aluminium composite white-primed surface. The bright & white sections of the artpiece shimmer with a silky gloss but without the glare. The colors of the print are luminous in the highest definition, fine details of the print are crisp, and you can really perceive a matte appearance of the art print surface.
- Canvas print: The canvas print, not to be confused with an artwork painted on a canvas, is a digital image applied directly on cotton canvas material. Furthermore, a canvas creates a lively, positive look. How can I hang a canvas print on the wall? Canvas Prints have the great advantage of being low in weight, which means that it is easy and straightforward to hang up the Canvas print without extra wall-mounts. A canvas print is suitable for any type of wall.
- Poster print (canvas material): The Artprinta poster print is a UV printed canvas paper with a slightly roughened structure on the surface. Please note, that depending on the size of the poster print we add a white margin of approximately 2-6cm around the artwork, which facilitates the framing.
