Supplementary description by the museum (© - by Art Institute Chicago - www.artic.edu)
Inspired by contemporary Dutch painters of the Hague School, Gari Melchers, who settled in Holland after studying in Düsseldorf and Paris, specialized in naturalistic depictions of peasant life, including this sympathetic portrait of a young Dutch woman and her child. Melchers portrayed the pair with vivid intensity, contrasting the woman’s direct gaze with the charming appeal of the baby’s chubby face. In 1906 Melchers exhibited this painting at both the Paris Salon and the Art Institute.

Select the material of your choice
The product dropdown menu provides you with the opportunity to choose the material and sizeaccording to your preferences. That is why, we allow you to choose among the following options:
- Acrylic glass print (with real glass coating): The print on acrylic glass, which is often described as a plexiglass print, will convert an original work of art into marvellous décor. Above all, the acrylic art print offers a distinct alternative to aluminium or canvas fine art replicas. With a glossy acrylic glass fine art print contrasts and image details will be more exposed thanks to the precise tonal gradation.
- Canvas: A printed canvas material applied on a wood stretcher frame. How can I hang a canvas on the wall? The great advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight. That means, it is easy and straightforward to hang up your Canvas print without the support of extra wall-mounts. Therefore, a canvas print is suitable for any type of wall.
- Aluminium dibond (metal print): An Aluminium Dibond print is a print material with an outstanding depth effect - for a modern impression and a non-reflective surface structure. A direct Aluminium Dibond Print is your ideal introduction to the sophisticated world of art reproductions made with aluminum. The bright parts of the original work of art shimmer with a silky gloss, however without any glare.
- Poster print (canvas material): Our poster print is a UV printed cotton canvas paper with a slightly rough surface finish, that resembles the original work of art. The poster print is optimally suited for framing your fine art print using a customized frame. Please bear in mind, that depending on the absolute size of the poster we add a white margin 2-6cm round about the print, which facilitates the framing.
