Original description from the museum (© - Petit Palais - Musée des Beaux-arts de la Ville de Paris - Petit Palais - Musée des Beaux-arts de la Ville de Paris)
Painted from a hotel room on the Quai Voltaire, Paris represents the view of the Royal Bridge that crosses the Seine to the Louvre Pavillon de Flore. There are stalls of booksellers on the high platform, while a barge is moored next to a tree.
Unlike other Impressionists who are far from Paris, Camille Pissarro spent in the last decades of his life, part of his work to the appearance of cities. This aspect of his work includes a series of ports and bridges from traveling in Normandy, Rouen, Le Havre and Dieppe, as well as views of central Paris: the boulevards, the Louvre and the Seine. This landscape is one of the last paintings by Pissarro, who died a few months later. He finished the Parisian pictorial route started at the Tuileries four years ago, making the Louvre the backbone of these ultimate urban years.
