Having gained considerable fortune in trade of jewelery, devoted Edme Champion, after his retirement, his time and money to relieve the unfortunate, including organizing the distribution of food every day. The pilgrim blue he wore frequently soon became legendary and earned him the nickname of "little man in blue coat." Its action marked many minds and his nickname passed into the common language to designate a charitable man.
