In 1860 Sébastien Melchior Cornu painted the 19th century work of art. The beyond 160 year old original creation measures the size: Height: 56 cm, Width: 170 cm. Nowadays, the work of art is part of the art collection of Musée Carnavalet Paris in Paris, France. Besides, the alignment of the digital reproduction is landscape and has a side ratio of 3 : 1, meaning that the length is three times longer than the width.

The composition is based on an ancient sarcophagus in the Louvre (inv. Ma339).

From left to right, Minerva protecting Prometheus holding the first man that comes to shape; Mercure supporting Psyche; the three Fates (Lachesis wearing a starry celestial sphere Clotho holding a spindle; Atropos with the book of fate); Neptune; Atys and Cybele.

The "Pompeian house" Prince Napoleon (1822-1891), built by architect Alfred Normand, reproduced in every detail a Roman house. It was destroyed in 1891. It is still well known thanks to the many photographs that were made by Richebourg, Laplanche, Godfrey or Bingham. Of the twelve compositions painted by Cornu for the atrium, only two are known paintings conserved at the Musée Carnavalet (see P.2782); they were on either side of the door leading to the library.
