Johann Peter Krafft was a male painter from Austria, whose style can mainly be classified as Realism. This painting by Johann Peter Krafft is the counterpart to the picture "Farewell to the territorial army man," the seven years previously emerged. The homecoming scene takes place outside the house outdoors and no longer in the dark parlor, like the farewell. Instead of the lateral stripe light the scene is brightly lit by the sun from above. Radiant colors dominate. The protagonists are the same, the Krafft also represented at parting. The older children had become evident that some years have passed. The repatriates is welcomed by his family happy and loving. On his collar he wears a medal of valor [¹]. In the background, a reunited couple Krafft had painted also in the farewell scene embraced.
