The parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector, presented in three scenes. In the middle of the Pharisee kneels before the altar, left leaves the proud Pharisee with a devil's temple, right, leaves the publican temple with an angel. The painting is part of a series of parables painted for the Lutheran church in Leiden (see also Nos. A-SK-2958 and SK-A-2960).

The alignment is landscape and has a ratio of 3 : 1, meaning that the length is three times longer than the width. Barent Fabritius was a male painter, whose style can be classified as Baroque. The Baroque artist was born in 1624 and passed away at the age of 49 in the year 1673.
