Original artwork description by The Metropolitan Museum of Art (© Copyright - by The Metropolitan Museum of Art - The Metropolitan Museum of Art)

Vigée Le Brun represents her only child, Julie, in profile and full-face through inclusion of a mirror and impossible perspective. The resulting double image, which derives from earlier artists’ allegorical figures of Sight, plays on reality versus illusion in painting. Vigée Le Brun submitted three images of Julie, including this work, to the Salon of 1787; approximately two years earlier, she had represented Julie in a nearly identical composition. These portraits capture a new appreciation in late eighteenth-century Europe of childhood as a unique, impressionable moment of life distinct from adulthood.

Your own copy of the work of art is printed thanks to the help of state-of-the-art UV direct printing machines. Our acrylic glass protects your selected fine art print against light and external influences for decades.
  • Aluminium dibond print: Aluminium Dibond prints are metal prints with an impressive depth, creating a contemporary look with a non-reflective surface. The white & bright parts of the artwork shimmer with a silk gloss but without any glare.
  • The poster print on canvas material: A poster is a printed canvas paper with a slightly roughened surface structure. It is appropriate for putting the art print in a custom-made frame. Please bear in mind, that depending on the size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin of approximately 2 - 6cm around the artwork, which facilitates the framing.
  • The canvas print: The canvas direct print is a printed cotton canvas mounted on a wood frame. A canvas print has the advantage of being relatively low in weight. This means, it is quite simple to hang up your Canvas print without additional wall-mounts. Therefore, a canvas print is suitable for any type of wall.
