What does the website of the The Metropolitan Museum of Art state about this work of art from the painter Édouard Manet? (© - by The Metropolitan Museum of Art - The Metropolitan Museum of Art)

During the American Civil War, the United States warship Kearsarge made headlines after sinking the Confederate raider Alabama off the coast of France. Manet did not witness firsthand the widely-covered event but devoted two paintings to the subject: a scene of the naval battle (Philadelphia Museum of Art) and this picture, prompted by his subsequent visit to the victorious ship at anchor near Boulogne. They were his first depictions of a current event.

Select your favorite item material

For every fine art print we offer different materials and sizes. We allow yout to choose among the following variants:

  • Metal print (aluminium dibond): Aluminium Dibond prints are metal prints with an outstanding depth effect. The bright components of the artpiece shimmer with a silky gloss but without any glare.
  • Printed poster on canvas material: Our poster print is a printed canvas with a nice structure on the surface, that resembles the original masterpiece. Please keep in mind, that depending on the absolute size of the poster we add a white margin of approximately 2-6cm round about the print motif in order to facilitate the framing.
  • Canvas: The canvas print is a printed canvas stretched on a wooden stretcher. The advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight, which implies that it is easy to hang the Canvas print without extra wall-mounts. A canvas print is suitable for any type of wall.
  • Acrylic glass print: A glossy print on acrylic glass, which is sometimes described as a plexiglass print, transforms your favorite original into wonderful décor and forms a great alternative to dibond and canvas prints. With an acrylic glass fine art print contrasts and granular painting details become more exposed with the help of the subtle gradation. Our plexiglass protects your custom art replica against light and heat for decades.
