Born in Delft, Mijtens, or Mytens, had settled in London by 1618. He became court painter to James I in 1621 and also held the title under Charles I (1600-1649), until 1634, by which time Anthony van Dyck was reestablished in England. This is the prime, 1629 version of a standard full-length royal portrait type, with fine, detailed drapery painting and minor adjustments to various contours made by the artist.

In 1629 the male artist Daniël Mijtens made the 17th century artwork. The over 390 year old original was painted with the exact dimensions: 78 7/8 x 55 3/8 in (200,3 x 140,7 cm) and was painted with the techinque of oil on canvas. Nowadays, this artpiece is in the the The Metropolitan Museum of Art's art collection, which is one of the world's largest and finest art museums, which includes more than two million works of art spanning five thousand years of world culture, from prehistory to the present and from every part of the globe..
