What does the curator team of the The Metropolitan Museum of Art state about the work of art created by Gilbert Stuart? (© - The Metropolitan Museum of Art - The Metropolitan Museum of Art)

Stuart's most popular portraits of Washington are the so-called Athenaeum type, of which there are as many as sixty replicas dating from the turn of the nineteenth century until the artist's death. Often disparagingly referred to as his "hundred-dollar bills"--after the price of each painting--the striking portraits not only provided an income for Stuart but also made him a major player in the development of Washington as a cultural icon, as the works sold far and wide.

In 1803 the male painter Gilbert Stuart made the modern art artpiece. The 210 year old version of the masterpiece has the following size: 29 1/8 x 24 1/8 in (74 x 61,3 cm). Oil on canvas was used by the artist as the technique for the artwork. The artwork belongs to the digital art collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is one of the world's largest and finest art museums, which includes more than two million works of art spanning five thousand years of world culture, from prehistory to the present and from every part of the globe.. This public domain artwork is being supplied with courtesy of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Gift of H. O. Havemeyer, 1888. Creditline of the artwork: Gift of H. O. Havemeyer, 1888. In addition to this, the alignment of the digital reproduction is portrait and has an aspect ratio of 1 : 1.2, which implies that the length is 20% shorter than the width. Gilbert Stuart was a painter of American nationality, whose style was mainly Rococo. The North American painter was born in the year 1755 in North Kingstown, Washington county, Rhode Island, United States and passed away at the age of 73 in the year 1828.

Choose your material variant

For every art print we offer different sizes and materials. Thus, we allow you to choose among the following options:

  • Print on glossy acrylic glass (with real glass coating): The acrylic glass print, which is often denoted as a print on plexiglass, will transform your favorite original into wall décor. What is more, it is a good alternative to dibond or canvas prints. Your work of art will be printed with modern UV direct print technology. The major benefit of an acrylic glass print is that contrasts and image details will be exposed due to the very subtle tonal gradation in the picture.
  • Canvas print: The canvas direct print is a printed cotton canvas mounted on a wooden frame. Canvas prints are relatively low in weight. That means, it is easy to hang your Canvas print without extra wall-mounts. A canvas print is suited for all types of walls.
  • Aluminium dibond print (metal): Aluminium Dibond prints are prints on metal with an outstanding effect of depth. The non-reflective surface structure creates a fashionable look. A direct Direct Print on Aluminum Dibond is your best introduction to fine replicas with aluminum. For our Aluminium Dibond option, we print your chosen artwork on the aluminium composite surface.
  • Poster on canvas material: The Artprinta poster is a printed sheet of canvas paper with a slight texture on the surface, which resembles the original artwork. It is suited for framing your art copy in a special frame. Please note, that depending on the absolute size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin between 2 - 6cm around the artwork in order to facilitate the framing with your custom frame.
