The sitter married Sir John Read in 1774, who also sat for a portrait by the artist in 1788. Born in Lancashire, Romney first apprenticed in his father’s cabinetmaker’s shop. He worked in the north of England until 1762, when he settled in London. There he became a successful portraitist, alongside Joshua Reynolds and Thomas Gainsborough. As with many successful portraitists, his heart lay elsewhere and he dreamed of making history paintings, but his plans for grandiose compositions rarely advanced beyond drawings.

Available materials

In the dropdown selection next to the product you can pick the material and sizeaccording to your individual preferences. You can pick your preferred size and material among the choices:

  • Acrylic glass print: A glossy print on acrylic glass, often named a plexiglass print, will convert your selected original into brilliant home décor and makes a good alternative to dibond and canvas fine art prints. With an acrylic glass art print contrasts plus smaller color details become more recognizeable with the help of the subtle tonal gradation. Our acrylic glass protects your selected art replica against sunlight and heat for many years to come.
  • Aluminium dibond: These are metal prints on alu dibond material with an outstanding depth. A direct Aluminium Dibond Print is the ideal introduction to the sophisticated world of reproductions with aluminum. The colors are vivid and luminous, the details of the print appear crisp and clear, and there’s a matte appearance that you can literally feel.
  • Canvas print: A canvas print is a printed cotton canvas stretched on a wooden frame. A canvas generates a extra impression of three dimensionality. Canvas Prints have the advantage of being low in weight, which means that it is easy and straightforward to hang up the Canvas print without the support of extra wall-mounts. A canvas print is suited for any kind of wall.
  • Poster (canvas material): A poster print is a printed canvas paper with a slight structure on the surface. Please note, that depending on the size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin of something between 2-6 cm round about the print, which facilitates the framing with your custom frame.
