The an old noble family from Thuringia and Lower Saxony entstammende statesman and scholar Johann Christoph Freiherr von Bartenstein (1689-1767) was in charge of foreign policy under Emperor Charles VI. responsible. His tenure of both the outbreak of war falls Turks and the Austrian War of Succession. After his dismissal in 1753 he was appointed tutor of Archduke Joseph (II.). J. was a painter, whose style was mainly Baroque. The Baroque painter lived for a total of 75 years and was born in 1695 in Stockholm and died in the year 1770.
