The most remarkable aspect of this picture, which is among the finest examples of Benbridge's work, is the confidence and elegance with which it is painted. The subject is unknown, but it must have been painted in Philadelphia during the early 1770s, just after the artist returned from five years abroad. His study in Italy clearly made an improvement in his style. The composition is well balanced and enhanced by a mixture of bright and subtle colors.

The more than 250 year old original was made with the absolute size: 49 1/4 x 39 1/2 in (125,1 x 100,3 cm). Oil on canvas was used by the artist as the technique for the piece of art. Today, this work of art belongs to the digital collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, New York, United States of America.
