The Violation of the vaults of kings in the Basilica of Saint-Denis in October 1793. Architecture. Demolition. Historic stage. Révolution.Fossoyeurs. Coffin. Crypt.

The posthumous sale catalog Workshop Hubert Robert, in 1809, indicates the presence in the No. 95 two sketches whose topic is "demolished in the vaults of St. Denis." Our table is probably one of the sketches. After the destruction of the royal monuments, decreed by the Convention on the report of Barrere, had ripped the crypt of the abbey, that is to say, the ancient underground chapel of the Virgin built in the ninth century by the Hilduin abbot, became in 1683 the vault of the Bourbons, and had smashed the ground in search of royal sarcophagi.
