What does the website of the The Metropolitan Museum of Art say about the 18th century artwork made by Charles Willson Peale? (© - The Metropolitan Museum of Art - The Metropolitan Museum of Art)

Samuel Mifflin (1724–1781), an affluent Philadelphia businessman, commissioned this portrait and its pendant (22.153.2) in 1777. An ardent patriot, he commanded three artillery battalions and served on Pennsylvania’s Council of Safety during the Revolutionary War. He also contributed a large sum to the fund established to equip George Washington’s army. This work shows the strong influence of John Singleton Copley. Like Copley, Peale conveyed an impression of importance by means of a sumptuous setting and a firm and frank presentation of the sitter’s portly person. The glimpse of sea and ship through the window alludes to Mifflin’s mercantile success.

Which kind of fine art print materials can I choose?

For every art print we offer a range of different materials & sizes. You can choose your your favorite size and material among the following options:

  • Canvas print: A canvas direct print is a printed canvas mounted on a wooden stretcher. It has a special impression of three-dimensionality. Canvas Prints have the advantage of being low in weight, meaning that it is easy and straightforward to hang up your Canvas print without additional wall-mounts. Therefore, canvas prints are suitable for any kind of wall.
  • Aluminium dibond print: These are metal prints on aluminium dibond material with a true effect of depth - for a modern look and non-reflective surface. The print on aluminium is the most popular entry-level product and is a contemporary way to display art, since it draws attention on the artwork.
  • Glossy acrylic glass print: A glossy acrylic glass print, which is sometimes referred to as a UV print on plexiglass, transforms your favorite original artwork into wonderful wall decoration. Your favorite artwork is being printed thanks to modern UV direct print technology. With an acrylic glass art print contrasts and image details become more visible due to the precise gradation of the picture. Our real glass coating protects your custom art replica against sunlight and external influences for many years.
  • Printed poster (canvas material): The poster is a printed flat canvas with a slightly rough structure on the surface. Please bear in mind, that depending on the size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin of approximately 2-6cm around the work of art, which facilitates the framing with your custom frame.
