The juxtaposition of the prominent bouquet and the off-center figure, gazing distractedly to the right, exemplifies Degas’s aim of capturing individuals in seemingly casual, slice-of-life views. The sitter is probably the wife of the artist’s schoolboy friend Paul Valpinçon; Degas immensely enjoyed outings to their country house, Ménil-Hubert, and the dahlias, asters, and gaillardias in the bouquet would suggest a late summer visit. The painting was preceded by a pencil drawing of the woman, also dated 1865 (Fogg Museum, Cambridge, Mass.).

Order the product material you would like to have

For every product we offer different materials and sizes. We allow yout to choose among the following variants:

  • The canvas print: A UV printed canvas material mounted on a wood stretcher frame. A printed canvas generates a soft and positive impression. The great advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight, which implies that it is quite simple to hang the Canvas print without additional wall-mounts. Canvas prints are suited for all types of walls.
  • Aluminium dibond print: Aluminium Dibond prints are metal prints with an impressive depth effect - for a modern look and a non-reflective surface. Colors are luminous in the highest definition, the fine details appear very clear. This direct print on Aluminum Dibond is one of the most popular entry-level products and is a truly contemporary way to display fine art reproductions, because it puts all of the viewer’s focus on the image.
  • Poster (canvas material): A poster print is a printed flat canvas with a granular finish on the surface. The printed poster is suited for framing the art print in a special frame. Please note, that depending on the size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin between 2-6cm round about the print in order to facilitate the framing.
  • Acrylic glass print: A glossy acrylic glass print, which is often described as a plexiglass print, transforms the artwork into gorgeous home decoration and makes a great alternative option to canvas or aluminium dibond art prints. Your own copy of the artwork is custom-made with the help of modern UV direct printing machines. This creates deep, vibrant colors. The great benefit of an acrylic glass fine art copy is that contrasts as well as smaller image details become visible with the help of the delicate gradation. The acrylic glass protects your chosen art print against light and external influences for several decades.
