In addition to this, the alignment is landscape and has a side ratio of 5 : 2, which implies that the length is two and a half times longer than the width. The curator, painter Hubert Robert was a European artist, whose style was primarily Rococo. The painter lived for 75 years, born in 1733 in Paris, Ile-de-France, France and deceased in the year 1808.

The ruins in this painting are modelled after Bernini's renowned colonnade for Saint Peter's in Rome. Its pendant, Arches in Ruins (17.190.31), is exhibited in this gallery on the opposite wall over the door.
