In an Italian interior treated with a great economy of means, the model an inscription on the top left of the table designated by the name of Marietta is represented naked, lying, looking towards the painter. The twist of his body reminds odalisques of Ingres.
Corot is expanding its original vocation landscape painter from the 1860s where the woman becomes one of the central themes of his works. For this table, Marietta poses in Benouville Achilles workshop where Corot settled on his third and last trip to Rome in 1843. In the catalog of the posthumous sale of the COROT workshop in 1875, the picture is titled "Odalisque".
