Duykinck was a member of one of the most important families of painters in New York State during the seventeenth century. As a teenager, he assisted his father Evert, who was a glazier in New York. By 1679, Gerrit referred to himself as a portraitist and not simply a craftsman. He did not sign or date the portraits he painted for private patrons in New Amsterdam and other Dutch towns in upstate New York.

This 18th century artwork with the title Portrait of a Lady was made by the master Gerrit Duyckinck. The version of the artpiece had the size: 41 1/4 x 32 3/4 in (104,8 x 83,2 cm). Oil on wood was used by the American painter as the technique for the piece of art. What is more, the artwork belongs to the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
