Paul Cézanne - Leda and the Swan (Léda au cygne) - fine art print

This picture is unusual in Cézanne's oeuvre for its specific literary subject matter. It represents the story from Ovid's Metamorphoses in which Zeus disguises himself as a swan to seduce Leda, the daughter of King Thestius. This is certainly one of the artist's more overtly sensual paintings: Leda displays herself for the viewer, hip curving dramatically and cheeks flushed, while the swan's beak wraps around her wrist as if taking possession of her. Cézanne made two drawings in preparation for the painting, one of which shows the figure holding a champagne flute.

Leda and the Swan (Léda au cygne) was painted by the male French artist Paul Cézanne. The original creation had the following dimensions - Overall: 23 1/2 x 29 1/2 in (59,7 x 74,9 cm). Oil on canvas was applied by the painter as the technique for the piece of art. It can be viewed in in the collection of Barnes Foundation. The alignment of the digital reproduction is landscape and has a side ratio of 1.2 : 1, which implies that the length is 20% longer than the width. The painter Paul Cézanne was an artist, whose art style can be attributed primarily to Impressionism. The European artist lived for 67 years - born in the year 1839 and died in 1906.
