Nowadays, this artwork is included in the The Metropolitan Museum of Art's digital collection. Mazo was Velázquez’s most gifted assistant and his son-in-law, having married his daughter Francisca in 1633. María Teresa, daughter of King Philip IV of Spain and his first queen, Isabel de Borbón, was portrayed by Mazo when she was seven years old. In 1660 the Infanta married her cousin Louis XIV and became Queen of France. Another portrait of her, by Velázquez, is also in the Museum’s collection. Mazo reused a canvas for this portrait; a group of putti from the previous work is visible through the red curtain.
