Johann Baptist Reiter dealt several times with private places like the bedchamber or the dressing room of young women. but this representation is the most intimate scene of the painter, because of the sleeping seems to be unaware that she is being watched. The interest of the painter was the game of veiling and unveiling. The light coming from the right light models the body and gives it a warm hue. In contrast, the crumpled sheet is decorated with richly nuanced cool shades. The more than 170 years old artwork "Slumbering woman" was painted by the male German painter Johann Baptist Reiter. The painting was made with the size of 55 × 68 cm - frame dimensions: 79 x 93 x 10 cm glazed. Oil on canvas was used by the German artist as the medium of the masterpiece. The artwork's inscription is: signed and dated lower right: J. B: Reiter Vienna / 849th. This artwork is included in the Belvedere's collection. The creditline of the artpiece is: purchase from Hans Piering, Waidhofen / Thaya, with the participation of the Association of Museum Friends, Vienna in 1962. Further, the alignment of the digital reproduction is landscape with a side ratio of 4 : 3, which implies that the length is 33% longer than the width. Johann Baptist Reiter was a painter, whose artistic style can mainly be classified as Realism. The artist lived for 77 years - born in the year 1813 in Urfahr in Linz and deceased in 1890 in Vienna.
