• Poster (canvas material): The poster print is a printed canvas with a fine surface structure, which reminds the actual masterpiece. Please note, that depending on the absolute size of the poster we add a white margin of approximately 2-6 cm round about the painting to facilitate the framing with your custom frame.

Important information: We do all that we can in order to depict our products as closely as possible and to exhibit them visually. Although, the colors of the print products and the printing may differ somehwat from the presentation on your screen. Depending on the screen settings and the quality of the surface, colors might not be printed 100% realistically. Considering that all our fine art prints are processed and printed by hand, there might as well be slight discrepancies in the motif's size and exact position.

English: Eugène Jansson’s later paintings are populated mainly by nude, muscular men in gymnasiums or, as in this picture, at public baths. His paintings are regarded as typical of what was called vitalism, a movement focusing on health and the human body, which developed in reaction to industrialism and its consequences. Scenes in the vitalist spirit were often set in summer sunshine, where the warmth makes nudity appear more natural. This subject has also been interpreted in light of the artist’s homosexuality. I porträttet har Eugène Jansson skildrat sig själv som dandy, ett könsöverskridande mansideal i en tid då homosexuella handlingar var förbjudna enligt lag. Medan de traditionella könsrollerna hade befunnit sig i upplösning under 1870 - 80-talet kom det kring sekelskiftet 1900, precis som idag en motreaktion, en backlash. Eugen Jansson och hans samtida konstnärskamrater sökte då att utifrån olika positioner gestalta denna identitetskris där både ”femininitet” och ”manlighet” var ifrågasatta. Eugène Jansson är idag främst känd som ”blåmålaren”, för sina nationalromantiska bilder från Stockholm. Under 1900-talets första år skiftade hans motivkrets från Stockholms ödsliga gator i skymningsljus, till storstadens människor, särskilt då nakna vältränade män som rörde sig i skarp solbelysning. Den av naturismen präglade människan var dåtidens nya manliga borgerliga ideal. Den muskulösa heroiska kroppen stod nu i centrum. Män skulle nå det genom friskvård och solbad, vilket då var en exklusivt manlig praktik. Den manliga kroppen skulle omformas enligt antika ideal. Oavsett om motivet var den folktomma Stockholmsgatan eller ett myller av nakna manskroppar på Flottans badhus var det olika urbana platser, rum, aktiviteter och nöjen som Eugen Jansson gestaltade under hela sitt konstnärskap. Framväxten av en mer eller mindre dold homosexuell subkultur är en komponent i den tidiga moderna stadens utveckling. Janssons olika motivkretsar – mörka gator och badhus – knyts samman i att de gestaltar platser där män som älskade män kunde träffas och knyta kontakter.

In the year 1910 Eugène Jansson painted this modern art painting with the title "Selfportrait". The over 110 years old original has the size: Height: 203 cm (79,9 ″); Width: 110 cm (43,3 ″) Framed: Height: 218 cm (85,8 ″); Width: 125 cm (49,2 ″); Depth: 5,5 cm (2,1 ″). This work of art is part of the Nationalmuseum Stockholm's collection, which is Sweden's museum of art and design, a Swedish government authority with a mandatet o preserve cultural heritage and promote art, interest in art and knowledge of art.
