The "Pieta" is a theme emerged from the late Middle Ages, as devotion media. It developed in Italy in the late fifteenth century in works dimensions increasingly important. Artists have established specific codes of representation to this iconographie.Traditionnellement, the "Pietà" describes Christ died, lying on the lap of his mother who is crying. The symmetric composition disposed in a landscape is characteristic of Florentine painting the early sixteenth century, and in particular that of Raffaellino del Garbo.C'est in the workshop of the painter that was executed on the table. He sold it to Charles Vincent Ocampo, on 29 July 1914 for $ 25 000frs.Du 4 October 1915 to 29 October 1921, the Argentine collector left his table on deposit at the Brunner Gallery.
