This portrait is one of the residents of the Académie de France in Rome in his disguise Masquerade organized in 1748. The young man, dressed in Sultana, wears a turban impressive topped with feathers. This would involve the painter Louis Le Lorrain (1715-1759), first prize for painting in 1739.

The three painted studies of the Petit Palais were performed on the occasion of organized Masquerade by residents of the Académie de France in Rome during carnival 1748.Le theme of this event, lord of the caravan to Mecca, had was proposed by JM Vien.
