Fire at the Hotel-Dieu in 1772, current 4th district. Urban landscape. Seine, transporting injured on a boat. Petit Pont Petit Chatelet, Notre Dame. Dodgers. St. Charles Bridge.

The existence of a hospital on the square of Notre Dame is attested from the ninth century but its layout and its location have been changed several times. The medieval construction took place along the court, parallel to the short arm of the Seine. The fire of 1772 which lasted eleven days, opened the debate on the location of the facility, which was finally rebuilt in the same place. The current building was built on the other side of the court between 1864 and 1877 on plans by architect Jacques Gilbert.
