In this large canvas, Guido Reni, a leading seventeenth-century Bolognese painter, depicted one of the New Testament’s more macabre stories. Salome, the daughter of Queen Herodias, so pleased her stepfather, Herod Antipas, by dancing at his birthday feast that he promised to grant her any wish. Prompted by her vengeful mother, Salome asked for the head of the prophet John the Baptist, whom Herod had imprisoned for denouncing his marriage. The painting illustrates the moment when the head of the saint is presented to the beautiful young woman. Highly selective in his palette, Reni depicted this gory event with rhythmic grace, soft modeling, and elegant remove. No blood drips from John’s head, and the color and illumination are cool; indeed, there is no specific setting, nor are any strong emotions depicted. In this late work, the handling of the figures is broad, especially in the legs of the young page and the feet of Salome, which are only summarily brushed in. This raises the central, unresolved question of much of Reni’s late work: whether or not this picture should be considered finished.

Possible product material options

In the product dropdown lists you can choose the size and materialaccording to your personal preferences. You can choose your favorite material and size among the following alternatives:

  • Acrylic glass print (with real glass coating on top): An acrylic glass print, often described as a plexiglass print, transforms the artwork into lovely décor and is a viable alternative to aluminium and canvas fine art prints. The artwork will be made with the help of modern UV printing machines. The major upside of a plexiglass fine art copy is that sharp contrasts plus small artwork details will be more recognizeable with the help of the precise tonal gradation in the print.
  • Poster on canvas material: A poster print is a printed canvas paper with a slightly rough finish on the surface, which resembles the actual version of the masterpiece. Please note, that depending on the size of the poster print we add a white margin 2-6cm round about the artwork in order to facilitate the framing.
  • The canvas print: A canvas print is a printed cotton canvas stretched on a wood stretcher. Your printed canvas of your favorite artpiece will let you turn your personal fine art print into a large work of art as you would see in a gallery. Canvas prints are relatively low in weight. That means, it is easy to hang your Canvas print without the use of any wall-mounts. That is why, a canvas print is suited for any kind of wall.
  • Metal (aluminium dibond print): This is a metal print made on aluminium dibond with an outstanding effect of depth. A direct Direct Print on Aluminum Dibond is the ideal start to the sophisticated world of fine art replicas with aluminum. The bright parts of the original artpiece shine with a silk gloss but without the glare. This direct UV print on Aluminum Dibond is the most popular entry-level product and is a truly sophisticated way to display artworks, since it draws attention on the artwork.
