A telling detail is the chained monkey: it stands for sinful man, who allows himself to be fettered by his base instincts.

Dirck Hals was a painter of Dutch nationality, whose artistic style can primarily be assigned to Baroque. The European painter lived for a total of 65 years and was born in 1591 in Haarlem, North Holland, Netherlands and passed away in the year 1656.
