The painter Johann Peter Krafft was a European artist, whose art style can mainly be assigned to Realism. The Austrian artist was born in 1780 in Hanau, Hessen state, Germany and deceased at the age of 76 in the year 1856.

Johann Peter Krafft presents in this painting a scene from the Ossian songs. The author of this Scottish epic from the 18th century, James Macpherson was before, he had translated the work from the Gaelic. The poet claimed that the actual author was Ossian been who should have lived in the 3rd century AD. J. W. v. Goethe was processing the Ossian songs in his "Sorrows of Young Werther", of which Krafft can inspire in his presentation. Daura sits on a rocky island and looks shocked over her shoulder. She sees her husband Armar on the left side as he plunges straight off a cliff into the raging sea, to reach the rocking in the waves boat. So he tries to save his wife, who was brought out of revenge by Erath on this deserted island. Armar had in fact killed his brother. With one hand Daura bases his dying brother Arindal that her husband has mortally wounded by a mistake. Before dying is a broken arrow that has probably met him. The arrangement of the two figures is reminiscent of a Pieta. Frodl Snowman notes that the face Daura Botticelli was borrowed, while the painter orientation in the landscape of Joseph Vernet's romantic seascapes [¹].
