At the edge of a stream, the washerwomen are at work while on the other shore, a fisherman's waterfront walks with a basket. His fishing equipment is placed under a tree. The scene takes place in an idealized landscape: on the left, the entrance to a village with a ruined tower, basically a bridge that crosses the river.
