This oil sketch or modello was commissioned by Prince-Bishop Viet Adam for the main altarpiece of Freising Cathedral in southern Germany. In the center the Virgin Mary holds the Christ Child while trampling the serpent of sin, who curls around the moon at her feet. To the left the Archangel Michael and angels cast out Satan, the "great red dragon with seven heads," and other ghoulish demons. Above, God the Father instructs an angel to place a pair of wings on the Virgin's shoulders.

Peter Paul Rubens contrasted good with evil by juxtaposing the agony and gruesomeness of the demons as they fall into hell with the Virgin and Child rising heavenward at the right. Rapid and gestural brushstrokes lend immediacy and drama to the scene.

Which kind of product material do you preferr?

We offer a range of different sizes and materials for every product. The following sizes and materials are the options we offer you for individualization:

  • Canvas print: A UV printed canvas applied on a wooden frame. A canvas generates the plastic impression of three-dimensionality. How do I hang a canvas on the wall? The great advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight. That means, it is quite simple to hang up the Canvas print without the help of additional wall-mounts. A canvas print is suited for any type of wall.
  • Poster print (canvas material): A poster print is a printed sheet of cotton canvas paper with a slightly rough surface finish. It is particularly appropriate for framing your art replica with a personal frame. Please note, that depending on the size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin of something between 2-6cm round about the work of art to facilitate the framing with your custom frame.
  • Aluminium dibond print: This is a metal print manufactured on aluminium dibond material with an outstanding depth. The Aluminium Dibond Print is the best start to the sophisticated world of art replicas with aluminum. The bright and white parts of the artwork shine with a silk gloss, however without any glare. This UV print on aluminium is the most popular entry-level product and is a truly stylish way to display art prints, since it draws focus on the image.
  • Printed acrylic glass (with real glass coating on top): The acrylic glass print, which is sometimes denoted as a an art print on plexiglass, will convert the original into marvellous décor and makes a viable alternative option to canvas or aluminium dibond prints. The work of art is being custom-made with modern UV print machines. It makes rich, deep color shades. The real glass coating protects your chosen art replica against sunlight and heat for many years.
