This over 390 year-old artwork was created by the artist Jacob Jordaens. Nowadays, this work of art forms part of the Art Institute Chicago's art collection in Chicago, Illinois, United States of America. S. Worcester Collection; anonymous gift in honor of Kate and Morris Kaplan. Besides this, the alignment is portrait and has a side ratio of 3 : 4, which means that the length is 25% shorter than the width. Jacob Jordaens was a male painter, whose art style can mainly be classified as Baroque. The European artist lived for a total of 85 years - born in 1593 and deceased in the year 1678.

Here an angel supports Saint Mary Magdalene as she ponders whether or not to resist the worldly temptations of gold and jewels offered by an aged procuress. In this early work, Jacob Jordaens had already developed his own rich version of Caraveggesque realism as practiced in Antwerp shortly after 1610 by his older contemporaries Peter Paul Rubens and Abraham Janssens.
