The earliest American painter to train in Paris, John Vanderlyn learned well the lessons of French neo-classical painting and executed the finest portraits of his career just after his return home to New York. The commission to paint Margaret Bancker (1774-1867) and her toddler son probably came through Vanderlyn's patron, the statesman Aaron Burr, who was friendly with her husband, Colonel Marinus Willett (1740–1830; 17.87.1). Miss Bancker was Willett's third wife and the boy, named for his father, was born in 1801, the first of their five children. Vanderlyn's fascination with France can also be witnessed in his "Panorama of the Palace and Gardens of Versailles," also in the Museum's collection (52.184).

Furthermore, a canvas print makes a attractive and positive appearance. Your canvas of your favorite artwork will give you the unique opportunity of turning your own into a large artwork as you would see in a gallery. Hanging a canvas print: Canvas Prints have the great advantage of being low in weight, meaning that it is easy to hang up the Canvas print without any wall-mounts. A canvas print is suitable for any type of wall.
- Aluminium dibond (metal print): These are metal prints on aluminium dibond with an outstanding depth effect. A direct Direct Print on Aluminum Dibond is the perfect introduction to art reproductions on aluminum.
- Poster (canvas material): Our poster print is a printed flat canvas paper with a granular texture on the surface. It is particularly appropriate for placing your fine art print in a custom-made frame. Please note, that depending on the absolute size of the canvas poster print we add a white margin between 2-6cm around the print to facilitate the framing with a custom frame.

Important information: We try everything to depict the products as clearly as possible and to showcase them visually on the respective product detail pages. However, the tone of the printed materials and the print result might diverge marginally from the image on your screen. Depending on the settings of your screen and the condition of the surface, color pigments might not be printed 100% realistically. In view of the fact that the art reproductions are printed and processed manually, there might as well be slight variations in the size and exact position of the motif.
